"Our
age of anxiety is in great part due to the result of trying to do
today's jobs with yesterday's tools."
- Marshall McLuhan
Diabetes is a global epidemic. More than 150
million people are affected worldwide, and that number is expected
to double by 2025. In the U.S., more than 16 million have diabetes,
and The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that one in three
Americans born in 2000 will contract the disease. As any parent
of a diabetic child will tell you, finding a non-invasive system
to measure glucose levels is a top priority.
Thats why the GlucoScope Monitor is being
designed and developed by Visual Pathways. Its intended to
be a portable, non-invasive, hand-held device that diabetics look
into like a small pair of binoculars and activate with the press
of a button. In a few seconds the blood glucose concentration will
be displayed.
On December 28, 2004 the U.S.
Patent and Trademark Office awarded VPI U.S. patent 6,836,337 covering
the GlucoScope™ Monitor. International patents covering the
GlucoScope™ Monitor are pending.
The GlucoScope Monitor is currently in the research
and development stage.
